The Magic Hour was a collaborative project about spirit, belonging and displacement. Neighborhood life in Harlem and gentrification in Upper Manhattan provided a stage for this work, which was an experimental process bringing together performance, music, photography, and visual art practices. Through documentary work and performance, we presented parallels to the lives of Victorian Era women as a reminder of how histories get repressed and displacement happens. The research culminated in a site specifics installation with a soundscape and interactive elements to activate viewers’ stories.
