What is the color of belonging? (interior portrait, Barcelona)
Michele King
I am a San Francisco based artist and social scientist. My work includes painting, documentary fieldwork, research and social practices. My visual art and other projects explore feedback loops between individuals and their environment, including the dynamics of memory and imagination, in different physical and cultural contexts.
I have been exhibiting paintings for close to twenty years and collaborating on cross-cultural projects for a decade. I am passionate about the creative process as a bridge for connecting with oneself and others in times of uncertainty.
Recent endeavors include The Telephone Project international collaboration, Bone Black Exhibition at DZINE Gallery and The Poetics of Light exhibition at Avenue 12 Gallery (San Francisco), Making Neighbourhoods research residency and exhibition at Placa de la Vila de Gracia in Barcelona, and an art+science collaboration hosted by the Stanford Urban Resilience Lab. Ongoing work includes The Color of Belonging and Mirror Neurons as well as several projects dealing with isolation and resilience created during the pandemic.
