About

Michele King is a California visual artist whose work has been exhibited in the U.S. and Europe. Michele is a mixed media and interdisciplinary artist who investigates ideas about interconnectedness, place, belonging and memory. Her work often explores time as a continuum where the future is a reflection of the past, much like mythology transforms over generations and may get lost to the mainstream.

"In addition to painting and drawing in the studio, I understand my creative practice as a holistic system of field studies, digital recordings, collage, found materials, writing, lighting experiments (and more) formed into a composite. The surface appearance of my work reflects an effort to mesh physical and psychological spaces while I also struggle with the balance between aesthetic and deeper experiential qualities embedded in my projects and paintings. Thankfully, my materials take some decisions out of my control by providing limits, metaphors and imagery to be explored."

Michele was recently selected for the Jiwar Making Neighborhoods project supported by the City of Barcelona Intercultural Action Program. Learn more: Barcelona archive project.
