Open Studios is April 14-15th with a preview party Fri the 13th
I share a studio in 1890 Bryant Street @ Mariposa, which is the workplace of over 60 artists. We will be open during San Francisco Open Studios (Mission District weekend) on April 14-15 from 11am-6pm and a Friday preview party from 7-9pm. I'll be selling miscellaneous work including pieces from my Can't Trace Time and Eyes Closed series.
Arts Collaboration Lab, New York City (Summer 2011)
I had a the opportunity to participate in this experimental project run through Columbia University School of the Arts in coordination with the downtown performance space 122. The Collaboration Lab's director, Gideon Lester (former artistic director for American Reperatory Theatre in Boston), guided twelve artists and four resident artistic companies to produce projects that used our backgrounds in new ways. We began our work thinking about the evolving political landscape of Upper Manhattan in the wake of redevelopment, and more generally the connections and disconnections between Manhattanites and their communities. I'm excited about the installation I helped produce (The Magic Hour) but even more valuable was the process itself as an exercise in seeing with new eyes, letting go of ego a little bit (it's hard!), and trusting the collaborative process. For me, this experience pushed my way of perceiving so much that it has taken the past six months to begin to comprehend the growth being generated.
